Terms and Conditions for Public Health Summer School (PHSS)

By registering for a PHSS course it is deemed that you have accepted these terms and conditions.

Contacting the Public Health Summer School

To advise the University of Otago PHSS in relation to these terms and conditions, including course transfers or withdraws or non-attendance, or industry or media affiliations, please contact kerry.hurley@otago.ac.nz

Transfer Policy

If you are not able to attend a course in which you have registered, you can transfer your place to another individual at any time without incurring additional fees. Please advise the PHSS before the course commences so a correct name tag can be printed (see contact details above).

Withdrawing & refunds

If you withdraw 6 or more working days prior to a course, course fees will be refunded, less a $50 administration fee;

If you withdraw within 5 working days of the course date, or do not notify us of your withdrawal, course fees will not be refunded.  Alternatively, see Transfer Policy above.

Course withdrawals need to be sent to the PHSS (see contact details above).

Prevented from attending & refunds

If you are prevented from attending a course because of weather or natural disaster, cancellation of travel, illness or injury, or other serious event beyond your reasonable control, then a refund of course fees is available on receipt of relevant details and suitable evidence (if required). Please notify the PHSS as early as possible before the course commences if you are prevented from attending and the reasons for this (see contact details above).

Changing, rescheduling and cancelling courses

The PHSS reserves the right to change, reschedule or cancel any course entirely at its own discretion. If the PHSS cancels a course, paid registrants will be refunded in full. If a course is rescheduled, paid registrants will have the option to transfer to the new date or receive a full refund. The PHSS will not reimburse any travel or accommodation costs associated with the cancelling or postponing of the course.

Please note that while speakers and topics are confirmed at the time of publishing details on our website, circumstances beyond the organisers’ control may necessitate substitutions, alterations or cancellations of the speakers and/or topics.

Disclosure of industry affiliations

If your work includes an association with companies which market or distribute any of the following listed products, by completing a registration you agree to disclose your industry affiliation directly to the PHSS at the time of this registration (see contact details above). These products are: tobacco, alcohol, firearms and gambling services. The PHSS reserves the right to exclude attendees with such affiliations from certain courses.

Attendance by members of the media

The PHSS encourages members of the media to attend courses. By completing a registration for a course in your capacity as a journalist, you agree to advise the PHSS, at the time of this registration, of your media affiliation and intent to report on the course (see contact details above).

Photography/recording

Please be aware that staff and/or attending media representatives may take photographs and make audio and video recordings of the event. By completing a registration you consent to the PHSS using, for marketing and publicity-related purposes, images of yourself in video recordings and/or photographs.

Use of personal information

By completing a registration you consent to the PHSS using your personal information to contact you about future PHSSs and related educational events and training. Information you have provided may be used in an anonymised form to help evaluate the PHSS. The personal information you provide at registration will not be disclosed to others unless by agreement.
